didnotwantcharacter.CHARACTER NAME: Captain Steven "Steve" Rogers/ Captain America
SERIES: Marvel Cinematic UniverseCANON POINT: Just after the battle in New York during the events of
The Avengers movie.
AGE: Roughly 26-28 physically. Add 70 plus years of being on ice. Steve is in his early eighties.
APPEARANCE: This is Chris Evans in his role as Captain AmericaPREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: None.
PERSONALITY: Steve Rogers represents one of the best of a generation of men and women who stood up against things they knew were wrong. He is supposed to be the ideal of what a good person should aspire to be. In
Captain America: The First Avenger we see that Steve is willing to just keep getting up no matter how many times a bully strikes him down. It is because he believes someone had to stand up to that man. Why not him? At the time he is well aware he is not physically capable of fighting back, but he simply doe not care. He wanted that man to know talking out in a theater rudely about men who are fighting in the war is wrong. Steve believes that soldiers should get the respect that they earned. They are trying to do the right thing and Steve respects them for that. He also wishes he could be there with them, if not in body than in spirit.
He keeps trying to get into the Army even when his friend Bucky seems worried that all will happen is Steve getting hurt or even more disappointed when he is rejected again. Bucky also fears that if Steve gets into the Army he will not be able to come to his rescue. In many ways Steve wants to show Bucky that even though he is, or was as time passes, physically weaker he still has the strength of character to keep trying to stand up for what he believes in.
This is what causes Steve to get picked by Doctor Abraham Erskine. Doctor Erskine sees a man who wants to help people. Erskine is reminded of himself in many ways since he too is not a very physically impressive man he believes it is the spirit that is important. He doesn't want Steve to change because of "Project: Rebirth". He wants the same young man who understands that power should be treated with respect and tempered with wisdom. Steve, as someone who has never had real power is someone Erskine thinks will understand that. The Doctor is right when it comes to Steve Rogers. What he truly desires from Steve is to see the good man he is continue to exist even with the Super Soldier serum. He thinks this can happen.
And Erskine was right again, Steve does not change into a monster with "Project: Rebirth" (which is what turned Steve into Captain America). If anything Roger's good qualities become a little more pronounced as now people can see him in a different light. Steve does not get the chance right away to show what he can do since after Rebirth and Erskine's death he ends up working with the USO office to sell War Bonds. During that time though Steve was able to learn some valuable leadership and public speaking skills he would later need.
Getting a crowd to pay attention to him was one of the skills he learned. Also learning to push them towards a cause even if the audience was just there for another reason. When he finally
becomes the Captain America that fights HYDRA troopers and Nazi soldiers during the Second World War he has learned that being on stage isn't so bad. But that does not mean it makes it easy for him to talk to a woman he has developed a romantic interest in. This is demonstrated when he asks Howard Stark for advice. He isn't sure what fondue has to do with women and also has no idea how to deal with an angry Agent Carter when she saw a secretary kiss him.
He later dances around asking her out. This is because in many ways he still sees himself as that skinny kid from Brooklyn. What would a good looking woman want with him? Even if there is chemistry between himself and the woman in question he is still going to be slow moving. That is not at all a sign of the time period he grew up in it is just that he has never found a way to be completely comfortable with dating and women.
This will come into play heavily when he interacts with any woman who has a romantic interest in him. For one he is still going to be hung up on Peggy Carter. She is the love of his life even if they never got that date. For another? Well Steve is going to move slow anyways. Couple that with the fact he just is not ready to move on with that part of his life and you have a man who just is not going to find anyone romantically interesting unless they happen to be Peggy Carter.
Another thing about how Steve is going to relate with each other: military personnel. Colonel Chester Phillips was Steve's first look at an Army officer or enlisted man who was not his best friend Bucky. He respected the Colonel. He even started to like him after a time. That did not mean though that Steve would blindly follow orders. When Steve wanted to go save his friend and the platoon of soldiers that went missing he went AWOL despite the fact the Colonel believed it to be a hopeless cause. This shows to me that just because Steve is, or was, a Captain in the Army he will go against orders for the right reason. Just because someone has a rank and experience on Steve does not mean Steve will fall in line and listen. He will take charge to do what
he feels he needs to.
This attitude continues in the Avengers with how Steve interacts with Director Nicholas Fury. Fury might be the ultimate spy, as Tony Stark puts it ,but Steve at the beginning seems to hold Fury in high enough regards to show up when asked. It can be assumed during the time between
Captain America and
the Avengers that Fury had time to get to know Steve. Steve respects Fury enough to go along with it all up until he sees that Fury might be going down a path Steve cannot approve of. Their relationship shifted to one of trust to mistrust at that point. Steve will still work with Fury but not for Fury which shows a change since Steve was still thinking like a soldier at that point. He seems unwilling to work directly within Fury's chain of command. Unless the future canon proves otherwise I am going to assume that Steve considers himself an Avenger first now. The Avengers fought by his side and he knows the quality of their character now.
He will even go as far to say that Tony is a worthy successor to Howard Stark's legacy. Tony might not be a soldier but Steve thinks under the glitz and glamour Tony uses to cover things up the younger Stark is a solid guy.
ABILITIES: Thisis actually a very good summery of what Steve is capable of.
Steve was injected with a Super Soldier Serum. This was supposed to make him better physically. It brought him up to the height of what a human can be and then some. Then "then some" is of course the fact his healing factor was advanced enough to allow him to drink heavily without getting drunk plus surviving being frozen in ice for 70 plus years.
That does not, however, make him immortal. He can still get injured. He just is able to recover much quicker from injury or fatigue than a normal person. He is also highly unlikely to ever get sick as his body is highly adapted towards being both highly effective and efficient.
POSSESSIONS: + His uniform from
the Avengers.
+ His Shield (indestructible). In every canon source I am familiar with the shield is said to be made from Vibranium. This is a fictional Marvel Universe alloy that is pretty much incapable of being destroyed. Even Thor's hammer Mjolnir can't truly damage the metal itself. The paint might get scuffed but the shield itself will be just fine.
+ utility belt (empty).
samples.JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE: [ Steve has spent the past hour scrolling through the COMPASS.He has been working out what has gone on in this place. He is horrified by most of what he has found out .
Then he resolves to fight back somehow. He has never liked bullies. That is just what he thinks these people from COMPASS are. ]I know you have all gone through a lot before I got here. I know we will be facing more things in the future.
You are not alone. We will face this together. I have seen all kinds of things happen. I even heard man has walked on the moon.
Has to mean something. I think it means we can face this. Don't let them get to you. They won't win. When the time is right we'll take the fight to them.
This is Captain Rogers, signing off.
THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:I do have Marion in the game already. I just feel adding third person examples helps show that I have an interest in the character.
Test Drive Meme Additional Third person SampleSteve is standing at the back of the room. He is still getting a handle of things on board the
Charon but he still opted to sit in on this group meeting. They were discussing the current situation on the ship.
He is reminded of stories he had heard during the War about the French Resistance. The rebels on the ship though are more obvious to him. Everyone here has a stake in this fight. He can only think of a few who might not care one way or another about what happens.
Steve keeps his expression blank as he thinks this over. Someone had mentioned robots an AIs on the ship. He wonders if they are like JARVIS. He knows Stark is fond of the AI he created as his helper for getting his hands into everything he can.
Steve wonders if they're like that at all. If they have physical bodies Steve thinks he should make a point of getting to know them. They could either become important friends and allies on the ship, or this could just turn into a threat assessment.
